Day 4. 17.10.25
A very busy day. We left home at ~10am and didn't get back to almost 1am.
We used all sorts of transport to get into and around the city, uber, trains, trams and lots of walking.
When I lived in Melbourne, I would catch a train into the city and meet my mother and grandmother under these clocks.
# 1 stop was at the Young and Jackson Hotel. I have walked past this pub numerous times but never entered before today.'In the heart of of the city, Young and Jackson is Melbourne’s most iconic hotel, located opposite the landmark steps of Flinders Street Station. Our pub keeps a watchful eye on the busiest part of Melbourne’s CBD, and looks over Federation Square on to the MCG and beyond. A heritage listed building, having been established in 1861, Young and Jackson has been beautifully restored and refurbished over the years to bring together a blend of boutique bar and a traditional pub. Home to the infamous, Chloe, an extremely fine work of art.
Chloe’s History. She has graced magazine covers, had wine named after her and poems written to her. She has experienced fame and adoration and has won high acclaim from critics. Her career began, like the many models after her, in Paris. She was created and moulded by a Master. She is a Melbourne icon, mascot for the HMAS Melbourne, an extremely fine work of art; she is an ingénue, a nymph, a celebrity. She is Chloe, the famous nude portrait which has graced the walls of the Young and Jackson Hotel since 1909. Throughout her life, Chloe has kept company with artists, poets, wharfies, Prime Ministers and drunks, soldiers, sailors, celebrities, bushies, labourers and art connoisseurs. Her history involves transformation, death, intrigue, love, war, depression and passion.'
The pub itself is nothing much to look at.#2 stop was at the ACMI museum in Federation Square.
#3 stop was at a restaurant on the Yarra River called Pony Island for lunch.
We had an Australas (Kangaroo, caramelised onion & beetroot) pizza.
